We are pleased to announce that our main speaker for this year’s Worship Leaders’ Retreat is Scotty Smith, Pastor for Preaching, Teaching, and Worship at Christ Community Church in Franklin, Tennessee. Scotty is an outstanding Bible Teacher and authors. He has written several books, including books co-written with Michael Card and Steven Curtis Chapman. Scotty is a beloved pastor with a great heart for people who serve as worship leaders and professional musicians.
Here is Scotty’s invitation to you to participate in the Worship Leaders’ Retreat:
What value would you place on spending a few rich days with fellow worship leaders in a retreat devoid of posturing and pretending. . . filled with hope, not hype . . . and designed for refreshment and renewal? That is our prayer as we will enjoy the unsurpassed hospitality of Laity Lodge, and marinate in Psalm 73—Asaph’s story.
Asaph is a perfect example of the occupational liabilities and the heart challenges of life as a vocational worship leader. We will hear his confession, engage with his struggle, celebrate his honesty, and follow his journey back into gospel sanity. To understand Asaph’s story is to realize that our primary calling, as followers of Jesus, is to have the hear of a lead worshipper and not simply do the work of a worship leader.
May Jesus give us a retreat filled with mutual encouragement, to the end that we will be able to say afresh with Asaph, “Whom have I in heaven but you? And being with you, I desire nothing on earth. My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion for a worship leader.”
