Andrew Ryan Shepherd has an ongoing photographic series (Artifacts) consisting of images of plant material, mostly leaves. A recent stay at Laity Lodge gave him the opportunity to pursue the project in the Frio River Canyon. What he discovered was an elemental approach to documenting the experience of a specific place. The collected images display a range of color and material that succeeds in evoking the subtle shifts evidencing the arrival of fall.
“Typically one of the parameters for this project is that the collected artifacts are dying,
so I couldn’t really get much of that since most everything was still green during my visit.
I still think this is interesting as it relates to a place in time.”
