The Enemies and Friends of Holy Attention
The Great Commandment tells us to love the Lord our God with all our heart and all our soul and all our understanding, and to love our neighbors as we love ourselves. But we cannot love unless we attend. As Simone Weil wrote, “Attention, taken to its highest degree, is the same thing as prayer. It presupposes faith and love. Absolutely unmixed attention is prayer.” During our time together in this retreat, we will strive to understand what in our current moment enables, and what disables, Holy Attention.
