Hi Friends,

On behalf of all of us here at Laity Lodge, I am excited to personally invite you to join us in our remote Texas Hill Country canyon for a winter retreat in partnership with Good Shepherd Collective.

That “friends” I just used isn’t merely incidental. We are grateful to count David and so many of you as friends already, and we look forward to becoming friends with the rest of you. We find that our work of hospitality is inseparable from the realm of friendship. As Henri Nouwen once wrote: Hospitality means primarily the creation of a free space where the stranger can enter and become a friend.

We believe in the shaping power of place—in particular this place. We also believe in you all and the ongoing project that is the Good Shepherd Collective. So we are excited to see how being here can lend a little shape to your good work.

Two details for now (I’ll save the rest for when we’re actually together!):

COST: Laity Lodge has been hosting retreats since 1961 as part of a Foundation that enthusiastically supports the arts. As such, the cost of this retreat is being generously underwritten by the H. E. Butt Foundation. We simply need you to register below.

TRAVEL: Laity Lodge is two hours from San Antonio. If you are booking flights, please plan to arrive in San Antonio before 2 p.m. on Tuesday the 17th to allow time to drive here. For returning home on Friday, any flight after 3 p.m. would be ideal.

David and Rachael will no doubt be wrangling all sorts of details and logistics with you in the months ahead. Please know that you may contact me or anyone on the Lodge team with any questions too.

We can’t wait to see you.

Your friend,

Steven
