Trust and Desire: Friendship, Love, and God

David Ford is a Christian theologian, Micheal O’Siadhail is a poet, and for decades each has been the first reader of the other’s work. They will be exploring together their experiences and where they have arrived now on some fundamental questions about which they have been thinking, talking, and writing. Why is trust so vital to life together, and how can we trust wisely? What about trust (or not) in God, in friends, in a marriage, in institutions, in media, in our own judgements? There has probably never been a culture so saturated with stimuli to desire as ours. In the midst of all this, how might our desires, wants, priorities, and practices be shaped well? The sessions will blend autobiography, conversation, distilled understanding, interpretation of scripture, and both published and unpublished poems.
